Transversal project that responds to the will of l’Ajuntament de Calonge i Sant Antoni to revitalize the socio-economic and cultural activity of the town, through its commerce, its restoration and its social life, while enhancing the family and cultural leisure.
This firm and determined commitment to position Calonge as the cultural center of the regions of Girona and as a town that generates creativity, knowledge and transformation intersects with the historical link of the town and its neighbors with culture, as well as with the its careful regular offer of activities: concerts, recitals, conferences, film series or street fairs. In addition, Calonge has great wealth in terms of the wine industry, organic farming, tourism and restaurants.
All these elements have been taken into account when identifying the real possibility and feasibility of becoming a booktown: a town where books and culture in all their forms are a brand and an economic and social engine. Other examples of booktowns as models of success in terms of reviving their economy and social life can be found in the United Kingdom, France or Norway, among other locations throughout Europe.
CYCLES AROUND LITERATURE
Cultural cycles with the aim of spreading literature and the world of books and turning Calonge into a quality cultural destination and a permanent meeting point for writers, publishers, translators, booksellers and readers.
The cycles have activities designed for all types of public, they complement the usual cultural program of the municipality and the activities developed by the bookstores of “Calonge, Poble de Llibres”.
